Wow. This 1973 Walnut ES-345 is really something special. This one has spectacular woodgrain to both the front and back; really quite stunning.
The ES-345 is essentially an upscale version of the 335, and sports the classy double-parallelogram fretboard inlays and a chunky neck.
It is in overall very good condition. It has clearly been loved and played over its 50 years but has been well looked after. We can see why, as it plays and sounds incredible.
This beautiful example has had some modifications over the years. A Tim Shaw pickup was added to the middle position at some time during the '80s. The original tuners have been replaced with Gibson Deluxes. The varitone switch has been deactivated, but the choke is included in the case if you want to wire it back up,. Most recently, it has been fitted with a super cool Gibson Maestro Vibrola tailpiece, which really elevates the look.
There are no breaks or cracks and the guitar has been x-rayed to have this confirmed. There is a tidy repair to the output jack area. The gold on the pickups covers and bridge have tarnished some.he binding has yellowed over the years, as to be expected. There are some light some light dings to the front of the body, although these are all very faint. There are some light pick marks to the scratch plate. There is some small ding marks to the reverse of the body and some light buckle scratches. There are some faint scuff marks to the back of the neck at the 2nd, 3rd and 5th fret regions, although these do not affect playing at all. There is a fine lacquer crack to the left hand side of the reverse of the headstock where the replacement tuners have been fitted, as is often the case. There are couple of small dings to the top of the headstock.
The frets are original and are still in great shape.
