We love this super cool Gibson Les Paul Special from the coveted good wood era. Definitely one for the player, rather than collector, it shows loads of playwear and has holes where a Bigsby was once installed. It is though one superb sounding and playing instrument.
In the 90s, with the establishment of the Gibson Custom Shop, the best woods were initially used in standard production models, like this Les Paul Special, before being moved exclusively to the Custom Shop.
It has a lovely mahogany neck with a chunky 50’s profile, complete with binding and fret nibs.
The original wiring has been replaced with a new 50’s wiring loom, including CTS pots and gas capacitors.
Other specs include Mahogany body, Rosewood fingerboard, nitrocellulose finish, Grover tuners and Tune-o-matic bridge and stop bar tailpiece.
Condition wise, it shows scratches, lots of dings, buckle rash and holes where a Bigsby was once fitted. The holes can easily be filled in, but we love it just the way it is. The frets show some wear, but have loads of life left in them.
Comes in its original Gibson hard case.
